You are bidding on a RARE, Police issue "IRON CLAW", a famous article of police equipment invented by Yngve Smith-Stange in 1919 and manufactured by the Argus Manufacturing Company of Chicago, Illinois during the 1920's and 1930's.

Banned in the 1980's, the "IRON CLAW" was perhaps the most popular (and controversial) mechanical come along in the history of law enforcement. It is also the only one to be numbered sequentially.

Rugged and dependable by design, I carried this particular piece on duty during the 70's and early 80's and always appreciated it's effectiveness and reliability.

It features a ratcheting twist handle with a locking thumbscrew. Twist the handle in one direction and the claw opens. Twist it back and it closes. Flick the thumbscrew down and the claw is locked.

It is stamp-marked, on one side, THE IRON CLAW over 86628 and, on the other side, ARGUS MFG.CO. over CHICAGO ILL. U.S.A. over PAT. 1950757 over PAT. 2066654.

This piece is in perfect working order - it is free of rust whatsoever and has a beautiful nickel finish.

An "IRON CLAW" in this shape has become increasingly harder to find and would make a fine investment for your museum or personal collection.

Ships to the continental US only!

We accept VISA/MASTERCARD, PAYPAL, money order or cashier's check.

Thanks!
