Fantastic hand painted tile by the famous Rugerio family of Puebla, Mexico done sometime in the 1920s to late 1930s. This piece is truly on of the best painted images I've ever seen from the tile shop, often the faces were done in a very simple simon manner, but the face on this woman is beatific. She appears to be carrying a baby in the bundled blanket on her back and, to my mind, is trying to sell the man a piece of her pottery. She might also be offering him a drink of water, but I think the piece represents a pottery seller and would be a perfect image to hang over your pottery collection. The colors on this piece are vibrant and very detailed from the yellow in her skirt and his sombrero to the different greens in the cactus and pine tree. He wears a cobalt serape, sits on a tree root and the two of them stand on a violet shadow. T are several chips or glaze skips along the perimeter as seen in the photos. T are no cracks, I think the glaze misses have been t for many years, the largest being the one at the bottom right corner, one-half inch long by one-eighth wide. Some crazing in the glaze at time of firing, part and parcel of these wonderful old pieces. Size is 5 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches. Please e-mail any questions, I care deeply about your satisfaction and only sell things from my personal collections of mostly Mexican pottery
