LAYAWAYS AVAILABLE : A very hard to find, 7-piece parlor set from the EARLY Victorian period of 1860-1870. Sets of 3 and 5 pieces are much more common but NOT 7 piece sets from the Gone-With-The-Wind era !!! Made of walnut, this 7-piece set consists of a medallion backed sofa, a gentlemans chair, a ladies chair, and 4 side chairs. This is an actual set, not an acquired set of 7 similiar pieces. Victorian Eastlake sets are much more common , but Civil War era sets in the rococo style are VERY unusual . I have never seen another complete antebellum style set in 15 years of collecting in person. In fact, the only other 7-piece rococo style sets [Civil War era] I have ever seen are the ones manufactured by J.W. Meeks and John Belter and these bring $30,000-60,000 for a set of 7 pieces.[ I have only read about these from high end auction houses but have never seen them in person at an auction either]. At a cost of $450 per piece it would be a good deal for each individual piece, but considering it is a complete set of 7, this price is a fantastic opportunity for the person looking to decorate a parlor in an eye catching, conversation piece style. This is a rare opportunity for anyone wanting a COMPLETE Civil War era set of parlor furniture. This walnut set is transitional in style with rococo lines mixed with renaissance lines. It has some "c" curves and "s" curves, serpentine fronts on the chairs and sofa and the cabriol legs of the rococo style, while the medallion sofa back and the crests on the chairs are more early renaissance in style. The chairs still have their Victorian brass castor wheels on them. I would date the set to 1860-1870 with the greatest likely hood being closer to the 1860 date. The set needs to be refinished [use some type of dark shellac to be historically correct and bring out the dark, rich formality of the grand carvings and lines]. The chairs could be reglued with some minor repairs done to a couple of the chairs prior to having it reupholstered.[nothing but reinforcing the areas of the pegs] The advantage of having it reupholstered yourself is that you can choose the color and fabric that meets your own home decor. Thus, you can custom the set for your own taste. We do accept layaway plans with a third down within 10 days after the close of the auction and the balance due in 90 days afer the close of the auction...Shipping will be done through A.C. Antiques .We also will store the set free of charge for up to 90 days after purchase for anyone wanting to pick it up in person. We will also deliver it in person for an extra charge any w within 250 miles of zip code 24210 [Abingdon,Va.].
