You are bidding on a rare, early WEDGWOOD blue & white jasper portrait medallion depicting King George IV of England (1762-1830), known for building the Brighton Pavillion as a royal residence. A description of a similar medallion of George IV (from the Wedgwood Museum in Barlaston) is provided, from Reilly & Savage's book 'WEDGWOOD THE PORTRAIT MEDALLIONS', (1973) page 171. Dimensions: 4" x 3" oval.. MARKS: WEDGWOOD and (in script) Duke of Marlborough. I cannot find a reference as to why it so inscribed; but, it is definitely Geoge IV. CONDITION: Excellent, wih no damage, restoration, etc. It is exceptionally clean and bright, with extraordinary high white relief as shown in the photos. PAYMENT: Check or Money Order.
