Item Description
The auction is for an exquisite rare Chinese white porcelain thousand-hand Guan yin statue (BLANC-DE-CHINE). Marked, Circa: early 20th Century.
Guanyin, the goddess of mercy. T are many different Bodhisattvas, but the most famous in China is Avalokitesvara, known in Chinese as Guanyin. Guanyin was depicted in the male form in the beginning. But later on the image became that of either a man or a woman, and eventually, since the Yuan Dynasty, the image gradually became predominantly that of a young woman, such as one holding a holy vase in her hand, pouring out holy water to save the multitude. Some people even call her the Goddess of Mercy or the Female Buddha.
BLANC-DE-CHINE - known as Dehua kiln that produce monochrome white wares such as Buddhist and Daoist figures, and vessels such as incense burners and vases who from the end of the 17th century and onwards in considerable numbers came to be exported to the west under the name of "Blanc-de-Chine".
The statue is in good condition. Perfect for collection and home decoration. White spots in photos are light reflection, NOT SCRATCH. Please check my eBay store for more antique items!
