yellowware, with six panels, four of which feature transferred decals that include Harrison`s campaign symbol: a log cabin with hard cider barrel and the slogan The Ohio Farmer, a portrait of Harrison, and a spread-winged eagle with shield. Marked American Pottery Manufacturing Company, Jersey City. 11.5` high (at handle) x 10` wide. One of the few known pitchers of this type is pictured in Arman, David and Linda, Anglo-American Ceramics Part I (1998: 9). According to the Armans, the American Pottery Manufacturing Company was the only American company to be `successful in duplicating the [British] wares that were flooding this country during the period from 1790 to 1840` (1998: 8). Despite this success, the rarity of this piece could be due to the public`s prevailing preference for the Harrison campaign porcelain wares produced by Staffordshire (1998: 9). For further information on the American Pottery Manufacturing Company, see Leibowitz, Yellow Ware (1985: 27).
