This is a rare lot of three photos related to the submarine U.S.S. B-1 and the 1st Asiatic Submarine Division. The photos measure 9 3/4 by 8 inches and are mounted on cardboard for an overall size of 13 7/8 by 12. The overall condition is very good with some corners bent. The U.S.S. VIPER was launched in 1907 and was renamed the B-1 on 17 Nov. 1911. She was shipped to Subic Bay in the Philippines in 1915 w she joined the 1st Asiatic Submarine Division. I believe that is w these photos were taken. Her CO in 1916 was LT (jg) Charles A. Lockwood, later ComSubPac. I don't know but that could be Lockwood in the photo. The B-1 was decommissioned at Cavite 1 Dec. 1921. The first photo shows the crew of the U.S.S. B-1. The second photo I assume is the entire sub division, and the third photo shows at least nine submarines underway in single file. This is a rare group of WW 1 or earlier sub related photos.
