Offered exclusively on Ebay is this rare original WWI American Protective League disbandment letter with original 2 cent embossed stamped envelope dated Feb. 4 5pm 1919 Letter dated January 31st, 1919 Addressed to Opr. B. Lichtenstadt it reads:
Dear Sir:-- This is the last day of life of the American Protective League. The organization has indeed had a glorious existence; it has played an important, even a noble part, in the contribution of our country to the great war. The record of the League will ever fill a brilliant page in American history. Its members have unselfishly performed themselves and their families. The work of the League, as a whole, will no doubt be recognized, but we, your former and present Captains, who have been in constant personal contact with you during this trying period, wish to take this opportunity of expressing to you our deep appreciation of your efforts, your sacrifices, and your achievements. You personally have contributed to the high standing and character of District 15, a company which had no superior, if it had an equal, in the entire League. Your record in the district is one of which you may be justly proud. Let us hope that the friendships formed may be lasting, and that the passing years will see us as closely bound together as we are to-day. We could not fittingly close this letter without a word of appreciation for the dear ones at home: the wives and mothers, who perforce have been neglected during these months. They too have made their sacrifices; they too have been soldiers; and we salute them respectfully, reverently.
