This is an original and extremely rare WWII DI and OS cap. It is OD Gaberdine (chocolate) with a grayish satin lining. T are no nips pulls or loose threads to this cap. The sweatband is extremely well stitched and soft and smooth. The piping is Burgundy and White for the Medical corps. The DI is an awesome screwback version for the 311th Medical Batallion of the 86th Infantry Division. It is hallmarked W&H Co -- for Whitehead & Hoag. This is an officer's qaulity OS cap and only the second 311th Med Bn DI that I have ever seen and the ONLY one in goldtone. The DI alone is worth the opening bid. The cap size is about 6-1/2 to 6-5/8 maybe 6-7/8 (but I think smaller). 86th Infantry Division: Arrived in France 1 March 45; Arrived Philippines 7 September 45 w inactivated 30 December 46. The division secured the bridge over the Amper Canal on 20 April 45 and continued to the Isar River at Friesing. T it crossed in assault boats under heavy fire during the night of 29-30 April 45.
