Offered for sale is an extremely rare, original German Imperial Navy Zeppelin war diary that describes a mission off the coast of Germany on May 4, 1917, during which the L43 attempted to drop bombs on an ANZAC cruiser that fired back with deck guns. The incident is a famous one, and I will leave the rest for the winning bidder to find out for themselves. The Kriegstagebuch is signed by the commander of the L43, Kapitanleutnant Kraushaar, and countersigned by his watchofficer. Kraushaar was lost with all hands aboard L43 later in the war during a mission over England. The 8" x 13" report is five pages long, and is unbound, and the paper is a printed form titled, "Vorkommnisse." The content is amazing and the condition is very good to excellent, with some edge wear, a stain along the spine, and some old paper clip rust marks. It is stamped "Geheim," or secret, and the signatures are accompanied by ink stamps. The map is a real treasure, an 18" x 24" multi-colored gridded and coded chart of a coastal area of Germany. It is also stamped "Geheim" and it contains a hand-drawn track chart of the mission, and a number of interesting notations. The map is in near mint condition, with deep fold lines.
