Offered for your consideration is a rare Emerson six wing, 3 speed residential fan with 12 inch brass blades, the brass cage is 13 inches across and it stands 17 inches tall. Residential fans used six wings instead of the usual four, using more wings meant you could move the same amount of air at a lower speed making for quieter operating noise. The extra weight from the six wing blade required a 6 pole motor instead of the normal four pole making for a very large motor and a very expensive fan for its day. This fan would normally have been found in the home of the more affluent such as doctor, lawyer or the like. The brass tag on the motor housing reads: EMERSON, No. 458504, Type 14666, Volts 104, Watts 55, cycles 60, speed (blank), The Emerson Electric Mfrg. Co. The Emerson Electric and Manufacturing Company of St. Louis, Missouri, manufactured the highest quality fans made in the United States from 1891 until the mid-1960s. I purchased this fan in its current restored condition from another fan collector and have been using it on a daily basis in my living room. The brass blades, cage, cage struts and all the brass hardware were polished to high luster and sealed in clear laquer, the cast iron base and motor housing have been repainted with what appears to be multiple coats of laquer thats been polished and sealed. All of the wiring has been replaced with new UL approved reproduction cloth wire that is period correct in appearance. It runs correctly and distinctly on all 3 speeds and is very quiet in operation compared to other fans of that era. This is a rare and distinctive fan that would add a touch of the unique to any early decor. The fan will be shipped in two boxes, the brass blade, cage and cage struts will be removed, carefully packed and boxed separately from the motor and base which will be doubleboxed and wrapped in many layers of bubblewrap for safe shipping. Shipping will be $55 and $11 for insurance.
