On a few occasions we get asked if our works are prints given their high quality and detail like no other offered. So, just for the record This thangka is a 100% original hand painted with real stone paint on canvas adorned with pure 24k gold!
In this exceptionally well painted thangka, Shakyamuni Buddha sits on his throne with his right hand in the earth-touching mudra and his left hand holding a begging bowl. He is portrayed surrounded by the sixteen arhats and various other attendants. The Arhats are men who have not become Buddhas but have attained a commendable level of accomplishment in rigorous mental disciplines. They are worthy of keeping company in a painting with the Buddha and we have them presented with gem-like crispness of focus. Although none of them are depicted alike, these are not portraits. Understanding that Christmas is near I have made a conciouss effort to pick and choose some of the most wonderful gems we have in our thangka collection so you have available to you some of the most special thangkas to either gift yourself, a fellow sangha member or a loved one. I need not elaborate on how painstakingly wonderful this thangka is, given the fact one must draw over 20 different subjects on a pieces of canvas and pay so much attention and detail to their finish as if they were each the central deity offers enough proof on how glorious a thangka this is aside from the fact that buddha with his arhats happen to be one of the hardest thangkas to come by making for a true collectors piece! This is refered to as the "Paani" buddha as "Paani" translates into water buddha! IT MEASURES A WONDERFUL 24 X 17 INCHES I DO OFFER THE FACILITY TO HAVE THE THANGKA MOUNTED IN PURE SILK BROCADE AS WELL IN CASE YOU WOULD LIKE TO DISPLAY IT IN THE TRADITIONAL MANNER. I DO NOT CHARGE THE KIND OF PRICES OTHER SELLERS DO IF THEY ARE EVEN ABLE TO OFFER SUCH A SERVICE DO, AND DON'T USE POLYESTER ONLY THE PUREST HIGH GRADE VARANASI WOVEN SILK :) PLEASE REALIZE I HAVE PLACED A VERY REASONABLE RESERVE ON THIS PIECE AND WILL LEAVE IT UP TO YOU TO DETERMINE THE FINAL SELLING PRICE OF THIS THANGKA AS I AM UNABLE TO PLACE A FAIR VALUE UPON SUCH A PIECE! THE RESERVE I HAVE CALCULATED IS PRICE THAT IS HALF OF WHAT JANKI LAMA WAS OFFERED BY MANY SPIRITUAL COLLECTORS WHICH HE TURNED DOWN AS MANY OF THESE PEOPLE "POACH" HIS CREATIONS AND ATTEMPT AT CREATING REPLICAS. A SIMPLE EXERCISE-LOOK AT THE CLOSE-UPS OF ALL THE THANGKAS WHICH I OFFER AND THE AND COMPARE THE DETAIL, CLARITY, COLORS AND ICONOGRAPHY DEPICTED BY THE GLUT OF CHINESE THANGKAS ON SALE. T is clear and precise explanation of the term Buddha in "Wisdom and Compassion" the Sacred art of Tibet: "Shakyamuni is the Buddha of our historical period. To understand the omnipresence of his icon in Tibetan culture, we must understand what "Buddha" (T. sangs-rgyas) means to Tibetans. A Buddha is a being-both human and divine, either male or female-who has "awakened" (sangs) from the sleep of ignorance and has purified all evil, a being who has "expanded" (rgyas) limitlessly the power of his or her compassion and accomplished all goodness. A Buddha is a form of life that has achieved the highest evolutionary perfection possible. He or she is perfect wisdom (the experience of the exact nature of reality) and perfect compassion (the embodiment of the will to others' happiness). Buddhahood transcends suffering and death and i...
