Mounted Diamondback Rattlesnake Skin 7-1/2 Foot Long It Came From A Rare Extra Long... Monster Snake This monster rattlesnake was very close to how long a rattlesnake can get… The average diamondback rattlesnake is 3-1/2 to 5 feet long. The record for an Eastern Diamondback is 8 feet long. The record for a Western Diamondback is 9 feet 1 inch long. This record was in 2007, the snake was from Texas. This information taken from the internet, on the site of the: “Albuquerque, New Mexico International Rattlesnake Museum” I do not know for sure if this skin is from a Western Diamondback from Texas or from an Eastern Diamondback that crawled into Texas. I do know it was a… “MONSTER SNAKE” This snakeskin was purchased, in Texas, this March. The man I purchased it from said “the snake was mounted about one year ago." The mounted skin is in overall excellent condition. I have taken several overlapping pictures of it. It does have two small spots, at the top of the skin, that are rough. They are shown in close-up picture. It has a wonderful color and diamond pattern on it. The cost for a taxidermist to skin, tan and mount a snake like this is about $3.00 per inch or: $270.00 It is mounted on a yellow and black felt backing. The length from the tip of the nose to the beginning of the tail is 7-1/2 feet. It is 9-1/4" wide, at the center, that would make it about 3 inches around when it was alive. From the information I received, it weighed about fifteen pounds. The rattles do not count for the length of a rattlesnake. There is no way to know exactly how old the snake was. The rattle segments are added when the snake sheds its skin, this can be 1 or 2 times a year or more. A rattle segment or segments can also be broken off. This snake’s rattle is 3 inches long and has 7 segments. Most likely, the snake was about four to five years old. Information states, that a rattlesnake can strike about 1/3rd to 1/2 its length. This would be 2-1/2 to slightly over 3-1/2 feet. You would not want to end up close to this monster... The skin rolls up into a loose roll about 14” long. It is in a cardboard box for storage or traveling... Show your friends what you have! If you want something large, different and scary, to hang on your wall… that most likely, you could not buy any ware… this mounted snakeskin is for you!
