Beautifully detailed, haunting illustrations and accent throughout by W. L. Taylor; drawn and engraved under the supervision of George T. Andrew. Thick, semi-flexible boards w/dramatic cover titles and pictorial design, moderate cover, corner, edge wear. Cover portrays the lovelorn lead clutching at his chair as the Raven perches atop Pallas bust w/bold titles in deep red, navy and brown hues w/additional scene of the man opening a door behind the titles; back board depicts a raven swooping downward amongst lightning w/sky in hues of red, navy and brown. Heavy stock leaves good; moderate fox inside covers, few pages varying throughout. Gilded page edges. String-bind good; exterior spine reinforced. Solid, rare example. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" Tall. Insured post.E dgar Allan Poe's hazy narrative begins on a night in December when "The Raven" haunts the unnamed narrator who sits reading "forgotten lore" to sublimate the loss of his love, Lenore. A "rapping at his chamber door" reveals nothing, yet excites his soul to "burning". A similar rapping, slightly louder, is heard at his window. When he investigates, a raven enters his chamber.
