Historically important Underground tabloid-sized comic book magazine edited by Art Spiegelman (MAUS)...A beautiful and slightly pretentious attempt to wed low-brow and high-brow art culture. "The Graphix Magazine of Postponed Suicides." A product of the early '80s Manhattan Soho art revolution. "Designed by Francoise Mouly. Cover by Art Spiegelman. This is the inaugural issue (Volume 1, Number 1) of Mouly and Spiegelman's ground-breaking graphic magazine that single-handedly elevated comix to a new level of intellectual embrace. Contributors to this volume are Ray Gross & Winter, Alfred Jarry & Bruno Richard, Geoff Robison, Kaz, Jacques Tardi, Joost Swarte, Jerry Moriarty, Mark Newgarden, Bazooka, Patricia Caire & James Barth, Lynne Tillman & Mariscal, Mark Beyer, Josh Alan Friedman & Drew Friedman, Heinz Emigholz, David Marc & Gary Hallgren, Francoise Mouly, Windsor McKay, Gerry Capelle, George Griffin, and Art Spiegelman (whose " Two Fisted-Painters Action Adventures" is bound in as a separate booklet, as issued)."Tabloid sized, 11" X 14" magazine, is complete with the comic book insert and the adherred color section on the front cover. Fine condition with some slight warping of the volume and some light soiling to the covers. Has a light musty smell. A nice tight copy... Super low opening bid, no reserve.
