I offer a Paradox….actually more than one all on the same piece of pasteboard. I was exploring an old house in the process of being demolished. When I looked into an old closet several faces caught the corner of my eye. The entire outside wall of the closet was formed from these posters; literally a “Paper-thin Wall” with several layers of old faded wallpaper on top of them and old lauan paneling as the final layer.After carefully peeling the paneling off the wall I then separated the posters from the old studs they had graced for decades. Then the work began….Researching Lizabeth Scott was the easy part-she was a famous movie actress back in the forties -touted as the “Next Veronica Lake”. The puzzle in the corner was the kicker: when I looked online at the casting list for that movie, Lizabeth Scott was strangely ABSENT. Further research behind her name revealed a scandal of sorts….it turns out she was reported at about the same time being seen at several “Watering Holes” with a gang of ”Baritone Babes”; (the vernacular for Lesbians at the time)…the association caused her to be viewed as an unsavory example for young people and got her blacklisted for many years- hence the no-show printed on the poster.
