I recently sold a few of these on eBay and received many encouraging messages about more of these. I have sorted through my specimens and have prepared another for display. Specimen is virtually intact --you can see the suction cups on all eight legs, and all the details, etc. Although photo may show multiple octopi, this auction is for ONE in a jar.

This is a REAL actual OCTOPUS that I professionally preserved in an archival specimen bottle. The bottle is clear flint glass with a lined white metal cap (museum quality) about 3.5" tall and 3" diameter. Perfect for a paperweight or curio cabinet.

The octopus is a dark purple-pink color, it has been specially heat and pressure treated and placed in a long-term ethanol solution. NO toxic formaldehyde or other nasty chemicals have been used. The solution has a maroon-pink tint due to the natural octopus ink. It will last for many, many decades. Not for human consumption.

(If you don't like the tinted fluid, you can replace with pure vodka. After a change or two of vodka, the color will no longer be prominent.)

The specimen is NOT an endangered species, it was legally imported into the US from Malaysia.

THESE CREATURES WERE NOT KILLED FOR THIS PRODUCT. These octopi are collected dead, each morning, after being stranded at low tide among the rocks, by children of a small fishing village. I periodically send them a plastic gallon jug of alcohol to preserve these specimens. When full, it is shipped back at my expense. It started as a one-time experiment, but now the kids are excited by this modest source of income. They use this as a way to purchase school supplies and other necessities. They still think we're crazy for paying them for unedible octopi... but they are happy we Americans are crazy.

This is a fascinating educational specimen that I hope you will enjoy as a paperweight, in your marine decor, school, or collection. They have also been popular as a home-schooling exhibit. I have one on my desk at work and people just love to look at it.

My proprietary pressure treatment makes these wee beasties firm but flexible and prevents them from looking like a pile of slime at the bottom of a jar. This is a science and art that I have been practicing for over 20 years as a biology teacher. Your complete satisfaction is guaranteed.

----> NO RESERVE; real auction! Thank you for ALL bids.

Shipping anyw in US is via Priority Mail as above. (includes surcharge and insurance.) Occasionally I will also offer these in my eBay store if you do not wish to bid. Sorry, it's tough enough to get these into the USA; I will NOT export them outside the USA. --> Please US customers only!
