This is a fantastic example of a Red~Wing/Minnesota Stoneware advertising mini~jug from a proprietor in Iowa! Not only is the jug in superb condition, it still has the original wood handle wire~bail!
This totally original mini~jug has an all white zinc~glaze and measures 2 3/4 " tall by 2 1/8 " wide at the shoulders. No visible crazing or cracks. The spout is perfect and displays that way, too! T is a minor manufacturing flaw on the left handle "ear" which is glazed over but doesn't detract from this jug's beautiful appearance. On the left side, bottom, t is a tiny edge flake which measures 1/4 " long by 1/16 " wide (beside my finger in the last picture). Hardly noticeable; with magnification it looks like a glaze pop as the bottom edge~ring has some clay and glaze buildup. The black, rectangular enclosed, under-glaze stamp reads " C OMPLIMENTS OF ED. H. WESTHOFF WATERLOO, IOWA . The stamp is perfect with no missing letters or smudges and is totally clear! The wood handle is missing some paint as it should being 100 years old, or so! Wire bail still retains a lot of paint with only a little light rust! Even though this mini~jug isn't marked with Red Wing or Minnesota Stoneware on it, collectors will recognize the fancy raised ring below the shoulders and the rectangular stamp~frame as being attributed to Red Wing. All things considered, this still is a beautiful, rare, near mint mini~jug which will look fine in your Iowa mini~jug or Red Wing collection! Another jug like this sold last December at an Iowa auction house (Wears) for $600.00. That one had broken handle "ears" and was missing the bail handle! Jug will be double~boxed and insurance is optional, though recommended. Thanks for your interest! ...Jim
