Ebay's "new rates" (effective 5/1/2013) and PayPal fees add up to about 12% of the sale price including the knife, stone, shop overhead, my labor charges and even the postage. 12% on everything. At a sale price of $290. opening bid these fees add $34.80 to what YOU are paying. This is about 1/3 what I "earn" for my 8 hours of work on a Buck 110. I am moving every knife I can to pre-sales for my repeat customers and my Art In Stone website. I am sorry but I just cannot afford to send Ebay and PayPal 12% of EVERYTHING without adding it to the cost of the knife. So, putting this knife up with a fair "Buy It Now" price is a marketing test to see if and how I can use Ebay and still earn enough to be an honorable use of my time. My out of pocket cost to do this knife = $106. and 4 hours of my time. If my time is worth $15 an hour the fair value of the knife would be $166. and with eBay adding 12% that would be $185.92. Somehow I just do not think I will be making $15. an hour! :-) So, let's see what happens. This knife is a Buck 501 Squire with silver nickel Liners and Bolsters. The scales are cut from two sister slabs of a stone found in Namibia, Africa. It is the best Sodalite I have ever seen and polishes better than the Sodalite from Brazil. Namibia Sodalite – Massive, blue-banded andin areas crystalline Sodalite of lapidary grade is found in Sodalite-bearing carbonatite dykes the Kunene river Sodalite deposits. The blue Sodalite occurs as bands, interspersed with bands of white Ankerrite, pink Analcime and yellow Cancrinite. The stone scales are actually really durable and won't be harmed banging around with keys and change. Even if dropped the bolsters protect the stone well although I wouldn't recommend dropping it onto stone or concrete. It is stone and could chip or be cracked if it lands poorly.... The knife is a Buck 501 with a 420 HC stainless steel blade. The photo's really do show the knife well. It is Redrummd 1687PCS. This is a link to my knife forum. I will be using a new numbering method to ensure that long term I can identify the quality of any knife being sold - even in the secondary resale market as my knives are now starting to be sold by others. Knives with a "PCS" after the number are from my "Personal Collection Series" and are the best of the best. They always have exceptional stone used and the fit lines are also exceptional. Knives with a "CS" after the number are from my "Custom Series" and have very good or better stone and good fit lines. If a knife with exceptional stone has less than exceptional fit lines it will be sold as a "Custom Series" knife. Knives with a "EDC" after the number are from my "Every Day Carry" series and are knives that are the very best bargains. These knives were intended as "CS" or "PCS" knives but ended up with a fit line or other workmanship issue that I find to be less than good or that have stone that an internal imperfection showed up during the cutting and polishing. I do all of the cuts and fit lines with nothing more complex than good eye hand coordination so sometimes my skill falls a bit short of what I would like.
