Reed & Barton Francis I Sterling Silver Flatware 2 Dinner Knives - No Monogram - NO RESERVE Your bid is for two Francis the First sterling silver flatware 9.375" Knives bearing the marks " REED & BARTON MIRRORSTELE STERLING HANDLE " on the blade. Although a smaller version is referred to as "Dinner" knives, they are called "Place Knives" and are 8.875" long. (This true "Dinner" Knife is technically called the "Place Knife,Large.") The blades are termed "Modern" - they have no finger guard at the bottom base of the blade, presenting a clean appearance. The Francis I design is classic, elegant, massive and detailed, and is probably the most-collected pattern in the world after English Thread & Shell, or the "King's Pattern." Reed & Barton, of Taunton Massachusetts, has been manufacturing this design since 1907. The design is unique, in that t are fifteen different fruit arrangements, one applied consistently to each of the hundreds of different pieces Reed & Barton has struck over the years. Date of manufacture of the knives is sometime after 1955, when the "modern" blade was introduced.
