Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock & Key This trunk is only $59.00 shipping cost to any of the lower 48 states through UPS! This is a nice refinished rustic flat top trunk from around the late 1800's to about 1900. This is a true flat top with no arch. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 1/2 inches, from floor to top is 20 1/2 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. This trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. There are some stress marks on the wood which we like to call beauty marks. They include some areas of discoloration along with some older nicks and dings on the wooden surfaces. You might notice a couple of the discolored areas in the top view picture. The majority of all trunks that we refinish have character marks and these are proof that these trunks have been around for a long time. This wonderful trunk comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that DOES activate the lock mechanism. This trunk also has a nice pair of front latches that do work properly. The metal parts which make up this trunk are not brass. If they were brass, we would have semi polished them. Since they aren't we have brush painted the metal parts in black and gold leaf. This trunk would work nicely as a coffee table or end table near the sofa. Some people that have purchased trunks from us in the past have gone ahead and had a piece of glass cut to rest upon the top, especially when used as a coffee table. This trunk could also be used as a storage chest anywhere in your home where storage space is needed. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have removed the paper lining and finished the wood with two coats of polyurethane. You can see the saw blade marks on the rough cut wood, especially on the inside of this trunk. You will notice this wood around the interior picture that we have put on the underside of the top portraying a Victorian girl holding her pet cat. There are some typical stress cracks in the wood, some of which are noticeable in the interior. Going to the exterior bottom, the trunk has some normal wear and there is a small piece off of one of the bottom slat boards missing. It shouldn't be a problem since the metal wheel is still intact. This trunk does have the four factory original metal wheels on the bottom. We have shown a close up picture of this piece of wood which is missing so there won't be any surprises. We just thought we should mention it. For about 10 years now, our refinished trunks have made great gifts throughout the years.
