Here is a refurbished Zenith Trans-Oceanic R-1000D, chassis 9CT 41Z 2, serial number 8425320, manufacturing date May 13, 1960. The owner's tag inside the back cover indicates the original owner was located in Cleveland, Ohio and the radio generally appears to have been well cared for and lightly used. The controls are all crisp and tight, usually an indication of light use. All original documentation, including Operating Guide with clean warranty card, Service Manual with schematic, and the show room hang tag, are present and in good condition. Minor dings and scratches associated with long term storage are evident but not a major visual distraction. .

The carry handle/antenna cover has been professionally repaired and has had internal epoxy reinforcement to mend hairline stress cracks. After repair the handle was polished and the lettering was paint-filled so that the handle is stronger than new and is beautiful to look at as well. There are a couple of unrelated scratches on the backside of the handle that are not easily seen in the images. There is only light pitting on the satin metal finish on the top and upper front door as shown in the images, but no appreciable pitting elsewhere on the chrome. A light scratch and small area of discoloration is present on the gold band on the front door as shown, but there is only minor shrinkage of the vinyl covering on the lower door. Overall, only a relative few minor scratches and dings to this 51 year old piece prevent it being subjectively rated higher than 8 or 9. Inside, the front face and speaker grille, and knobs are in excellent cosmetic condition with no flaking of the metallic coatings and no appreciable wear marks around the knobs. The log book is present in the door pocket and complete, although the front page pull tab has been reinforced, and there are just a couple of light marks in the log book from long ago.

Internally, the radio is quite clean with only one small spot of light corrosion commonly found beneath the battery box. The chassis is bright and clean as is the inside of the back cover, where all original tags and original ownership label are present and in good condition. The battery box has been professionally repaired to include installation of new contact springs and headers, and is clean. Electronically, the chassis has been completely re-capped, all switches and controls were cleaned and lubricated, and the radio was RF aligned to assure frequency readout is correct on all bands. The radio plays strongly on all bands with lots of crisp, clean audio.

I've provided an accurate and complete description of this piece and lots of images to help guide your bidding. The radio is guaranteed to be as described and not DOA but, as with all vintage electronics, no other warranty is offered or implied. Please read the description carefully, check the images closely, and ask any questions before submitting a bid.
