Rare and unusual antique gilt bronze cherub and gilt bronze decorated large jewelry box. The box has at its corners 4 gilt bronze putti measuring 3-1/2 inches high and 2-1/2 inches wide. The handle of the box is 2 gilt bronze entwined snakes. The key plate has 2 cherubs at either side and a mythological face in the middle. The box is further enhanced with gilt bronze beading along the lower portion, a gilt bronze decorative wreath along the upper portion and at the top portion additional gilt bronze beading. The outside of the box looks and feels like suede. The outside bottom of the box is leather. When you open the box it has its original silk lining, a piano hinge and 2 locking devices. We do not have the key. The box is unlocked and can open and close freely. A visit to your local locksmith would most likely prove successful if one wanted to secure a key in order to lock this box. This regal box measures 11-1/2 inches long, 8-1/4 inches wide, 8 inches tall with the handle up. The shape, quality and design of this unique jewelry box make it a true collector's item. This box most likely was made for royalty 100 or more years ago. Superb original condition.
