This is a general store pickle crock with an advertising logo for Reid, Murdoch And Co. ( Monarch Foods) and the cities of Chicago, Pittsburgh, New York and Boston. The logo is on both the front and back of the crock, as pictured. It is an early grocery store piece and was recently purchased from an elderly gentleman that recovered it, when he was asked as a teenager, to help neighbors clean out an old store building. It has been in his posession since that time. The bottom is stoneware and the top consists of a very thick piece of glass which measures 13 1/2" by 13 1/2". The lid is fitted with a spring latch which snaps onto a catch on the side of the crock. Everything about it is guaranteed to be original. It has a chip on the top side of the waist band (as pictured) and that's it. Look closely at how the hinged top is afixed to the side of the crock and it is easily understood why almost none of these survived. It measures 7" tall, 12" across the top and 10 1/2" across the bottom. The width of the ring (or waistband) is 15". We believe that this crock may have been made by Red Wing but other than the logo (front and back) t are no other markings on it. Don't miss out.
