This is an EXCEPTIONAL sterling silver 3 part locket reliquary containing 3 substantial f i r s t class relics of John the Baptist, cousin of Jesus, nephew of Mary, Saint Joachim, father of the Virgin Mary and Grandfather to Jesus, and Saint Zachariah, Husband of St. Elizabeth and father of John the Baptist. Saint Zachariah is mentioned in the gospel of Saint John as being measures 1 5/8" x 1 1/8".This locket reliquary dates the late 1770's and was made in the Vatical in Rome. It bears the silver hallmark of the Keys of Saint Peter, the symbol of the Vatican and Pope.The front cover has a beautiful Baroque depiction of the Virgin Mary and the Latin words, MATER SALVATORIS OP for Mother of our Savior, and the other side had a depiction of Christ with the Latin words SALVATOR MUNDIS SN for Savior of the World.The front and back covers beautifully protects the holy relics as well as the perfect red wax seal & red silk threads, all of which are correct and perfect, ensuring the authenticity of the relic.The cover also allows the reliquary to be worn with a chain, hung on a wall above a crucifix, or it can placed in a reliquary.This reliquary dates from the late 1700's, from the Vatican, Rome, and predates the founding of modern Italy.This relic comes from the estate of a beloved French Archbishop.
