RELIEF MAP OF THE UNITED STATES WITH HISTORICAL ILLUSTRATIONS Up for sale is a fascinating Ohman's Relief Map of the United States printed in the mid 1940's. It measures 29 inches by 36 inches and is printed on a heavy map paper. The top of the map features six historical scenes alternating with maps of the United States at different times in history. It is as follows: 1492 Columbus Discovers New World / USA map 1783-1803 1620 Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock / USA map 1803-1830 1807 Steamboat with Paddle Wheel / Coke logo and "Compliments of the Coca Cola Bottling Company" 1828 Covered Wagons Going West / USA map 1830-1855 1880 Railroads and Trains / USA map 1855 1942 World War II Pilots and Airplane As you can see from the photos, the map has some damage but could be restored to its original condition. The damage is more a scraping off of some of the paper, rather than holes or tears. The back of the map shows the "1940 Official Census of the United States and Adjoining portions of Canada and Mexico." This is a wonderful piece of American history. Possibly Coca Cola donated this map for use in schools. When I was teaching, companies donated maps in exchange for advertising their products. Note from helpful ebayer: This map is a copy of a turn-of-the-century map which actually has raised relief. The roads you see on the map are railroads as this was before the era of automobiles.
