Hello, I have offered for sale a lovely vintage (1910) Catholic prayer book from the Victorian Era. It is a thing of beauty. The nice, tight binding holds beautifully gilt trimmed pages that appear to have little wear. The recipient's name was written in pencil, so can easily be removed, but I left it t as an example of Victorian penmanship. The book has a curved hard plastic cover that I think may be celluloid. The cover depicts a golden chalice with the Christ child above surrounded by light and a circle of angels. A metal (brass, probably - maybe ormulu? vermiel?) clasp holds this precious book closed and has a piece of mother of pearl attached to it. This book has a ribbon bookmark attached on the inside. The book is 4" tall. This precious little book is in excellent condition for its age showing very little wear. I have a number of very interesting religious antiques I will be selling this week, including another book very similar ~ yet different, to this. Other items are vintage silk altar flags (?) help me PLEASE if you know the correct term, and an old antique oak shadow box (pictured), a holy water font with the Virgin Mary, a Weller Art Pottery wall pocket in the shape of a crucifix, an antique sterling silver rosary and an old catechism book.
