A spiritual treasure ! A beautiful oval-shaped silver reliquary, surrounded by a filigree silver spiural edge, covered by octagonal crystal glass, ca. 1/12 inches in height, sealed with the red wax seal of Cardinal Fernando Spinelli (Cardinal from 1785-1795), Rome, ca. 1790. Inside, surrounded by gilt paperoles and silver spirals, are two large, important relics of two Apostles of Our Lord Jesus Christ: S. Andrea Ap.: St. Andrew, Apostle Brother of St. Peter Born in Betsaida, Galilee, he was the brother of St. Peter and a disciple of St. John the Baptist. He was called by Christ to be his first Apostle and then brought Peter to Jesus. For a time they followed him intermittently, but when the Saviour returned to Galilee, he called them from their fishing, saying he would make them fishers of men. After Pentecost, he preached the gospel in Skythia (Ukraine and Russia) and Greece. Under the Emperor Nero, he was crucified in Patras, Greece on an X-shaped cross. He is the Patron Saint of Scotland and Russia. S. Tomaso, Ap.: St. Thomas, Apostle Born in Galilee and surnamed Didymus (the twin), he became one of the twelve apostles when he was called by Our Lord. He is best known for the incident in John 20:24-29, when he refused to believe that Christ had apeared to the Apostles, saying that he would do so only if he could "see the holes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the holes they made, and ... put my hand into his side", giving rise to the expression "doubting Thomas". When Christ appeared to him, he exclaimed "My Lord and my God", thus becoming the first to acknowledge explicitly the divinity of Christ. After Pentecost, he preached in Parthia and went further to India, w he suffered martyrdom and was buried in Mylapore near Madras. His relics were first brought to Edessa and then to Rome.
