Rice, Allen Thorndike. Reminiscences of Abraham Lincoln by distinguished gentlemen of his time. FIRST EDITION. Bound in original green cloth. Gilded crest of Lincoln on cover. 9 1/4''. Complete in one volume. North American Review, New York. 1888.
Excellent condition. Slight general rubbing. Hinges fully intact. Some internal hinge paper wear. Text-block tight. Interior clean, bright. Free of foxing but for beginning pages.
Includes memorials by 23 contemporaries of Lincoln, including the author Allen Thorndike Rice, Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, Elihu Washburne, Frederick Douglass, Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, Hon. Cassius M. Clay, Leonard Swett, Walt Whitman. Includes copies of handwritten documents by Charles Francis Seward, Lincoln's Sec. of State, which are edited and marked by Lincoln's hand. Also includes portraits of each of the contributors, along with their signatures.
