Please take time to read all about this very rare little car & if you still need any questions answered please do not hesitate to ask. In 1989/90 Renault UK built 1,500 R5 Monaco’s in the following colours - Mocca brown, Tungsten grey & Antique Beige, 500 of each in either 1.7 manual or 1.4 Automatic For sale is a 1989 1.4 Auto in Antique Beige which in our opinion is the best of the 3 colour options These Monaco models themselves were a celebration of the R5 by Renault before downgrading the car in the wake of the arrival of the Clio, subsequently from then on the R5 was only available with a Manual gearbox & 3 doors & re-badged as the Campus or Prima. & I’m afraid to say that in my opinion the build quality suffered greatly on the post 1990 models with lower standard interiors & suspect paint quality, followed by rust issues Not to mention the introduction of the frugal fuel injection system, a catalytic exhaust which all replaced the fabulous & very rapid Weber duel carburettors In the late 1980`s It seems someone at Renault decided that it would be a good idea to get their smallest production car & basically put all the luxuries you would expect from a car at the top of their range. Therefore the superb spec` on our little R5 is as follows: - Metallic paintwork Painted bumpers front & rear to suit Painted side skirts to suit Paint body panels to suit Painted external mirrors to suit Gold “Monaco” Badgeing Gold double body pin stripes to suit Continental style yellow integrated fog lights Power steering Weber dual Carburettor with manual choke Alloy wheels & wider tyres (Special edition wheels only made for the Monaco) Slightly lower suspension Mud flaps all round Tined windows all round (Green - no chips or cracks) Electric drivers/passenger windows Rear side window latch opening Rear Parcel shelf in colour co-ordinated carpet style material Auto Boot light Full Luxurious soft leather seats (Cream) with Leather headrests on front seats to suit Leather steering wheel to match (Cream) Wilton carpets to match (Cream) Factory fitted sunroof Internal co-ordinated grab rail/handles (3) Rear wash/wipe 4 x speaker stereo system Kenwood CD player/radio with detachable front (original radio/cassette supplied for you purists)) Rear compartment zipper bag (Cam) Brown genuine Renault front tailored carpet mats Internal manual mirror adjusters (drivers & passengers side) All this came at a price though, & as we have the original bill of sale with the cars comprehensive history file, we can clarify that the purchase price in 1989 was a staggering £ 9250.00 & this was with an apparent £869.35 discount! (To put this into perspective, you could buy a new VW Golf Karmann Ghia cabriolet for around 8k then) This car has a Genuine Mileage of only 49650 & has been used by my Daughter on a regular daily basis since May 2007 & has been very reliable. It has low running costs re` insurance, MPG & tax The Auto box works very well with no bumps, noises or lag, In fact unlike some auto cars, you do not have to boot the accelerator down to downshift if you need to, Just a gentle depressing brings the acceleration very nicely in, similar to overdrive & the car is very nippy indeed .The previous owner was myself, prior to myself was a member of the family of the original purchaser (4 in all) The car comes with some service history & receipts, nice clean Haynes manual & of course the original owners manual The Leather interior shows signs of its age but is in good condition with no rips or tears to it The Monaco has been very well maintained, has been a non-smoking & pet free car The overall condition of the car is very good considering its age; it does have a couple of very small car park... read more
