Rene Lalique designed many containers for toiletries and beauty products for his Parfumeur friends, especially Coty, D'Orsay and Forvil. Unless they were crystal or glass, he did not sign them and let the brand owner affix his name. This is the case for this 1920 compact for Coty, but the design by Lalique is well acknowledged, documented and photographed in the Lalique "Bible", the Marcilhac, as well as in other books such as Warman's excellent "Lalique" by Mark Moran. Miller's book on compacts also recognizes the personal paternity of Rene Lalique. These compacts come in 2 sizes, 5 and 7 cm (2" and 2.8") in diameter, and this is the smaller size. The clasp and the mirror inside are good, t is no powder left, but the receptacle is neat and the applying puff is t. The bottom of the compact is imprinted with a wavy "watermarK" motif all over and "Coty Paris" is engraved in the middle. The compact is this time accompanied by the matching powder box (empty) but they rarely do come together. This is the larger box, 9.5 cm (3") in diameter A very nice present in excellent condition...
