In the tiny villages towns and settlements of the past the blacksmith was the master artisan of lasting and most important utilitarian objects. The skills, creativity, and brute strength of this trade are apparent in each piece and design. Today many of the artistic designs of the past are in use and have inspired the work of today. This piece measures 10" High 7" Wide FeetGreat reproduction rushlight candle holder with iron penny feet just like the antiques. Rushlights were a form of early lighting used during the Colonial era, The iron jaws of the pincers used to secure burning rush reeds or splints as a source of illumination. A wonderful attribute of this particular example is the blacksmith turned the counterbalance weight arm in a candleholder itself, allowing the piece to burn wax or tallow candles for additional illumination.
