You are bidding on a high-quality modern reprint of the vintage military manual "Parts Catalog for Aircraft Engines Models V-1650-3, -7, -13 and 17, and Merlin 68 and 69", Air Force Manual AN 02A-55AC-4, 10 December 1944, 260 pages. This engine made the P-51 possible, and consequently the allied bombing raids over Germany. These fighters were a good match for the Luftwaffe ME-109, but had several times the range. This engine was originally designed in the 1930's and featured a number of advanced features that didn't make it into automobile engines until the 1960 - and were controversial then. These included the aluminum block with steel liners, 4 valves per cylinder, dual overhead camshafts (gear-driven - no flakey belts or chains), and many more. Chapters include Introduction, Group Assembly Parts List (55 sections), Numerical Parts List, Standard Parts List, Service Tools. These illustrated parts breakout manuals are great for really understanding what goes into the engine. For instance, have you ever wondered what keeps the cylinder liners from sliding down into the crankcase? It is here (several concentric shims pressed into place). How about how the gearing for the overhead cams work? It is here (twin bevel gears on the connecting shaft).THE ORIGINAL MANUAL I SCANNED WAS A BIT ROUGH. The first couple of pages are a mess. Sorry. read more
