Presenting a large, exquisitely painted and nearly perfect Chinese porcelain vase with rare famille rose motif of the Daoist Star Gods. Seen from the left in relevant photos is a kneeling Fuxing , who personifies good fortune; the imposing red-robed Luxing , symbol of a prosperous and influential career; and then everyone's favorite, Shouxing , the emblem of long life. The scene is painted in vibrant primary colors reminiscent of an early 18th century palette. On the reverse, a single pine tree stands amidst rocks. Below a rubbed gilt rim, the interior of the mouth and neck is covered in light turquoise glaze, which is used as well on the base. At the center of the foot is a six-character apocryphal Qianlong mark in iron-red seal script on a white ground. Estimated age circa 1912-25.

SIZE: Height of approximately 16 inches (45.8 cm). Weight of around eight pounds.

CONDITION: A single tight hairline runs vertically down the back of the body without touching either rim. It begins about 1.5 inches below the mouth and ends slightly more than three inches from the foot. Much of the line is lost in a painting of a pine amidst rocks, suggesting that it could have been an original production flaw, over which the tree was painted to mask. Otherwise the vase is free of perceptible damage and only has age-appropriate wear to the enamels and gilding in addition to typical small potting, enameling and glazing variances, including tiny pinholes, small glaze ripples, and other such characteristics in common with all traditional Chinese handmade porcelain. Condition highlights shown in accompanying photos constitute an important part of this description.
