*** Even though i do my best to describe my machines well & post good pictures, keep in mind that i'm not perfect & neither are the machines that i've restored. All the work that i do on these sewing machines is done by me by hand. the most difficult area for me to master has been the restoration painting (repainting black areas & details) & clear-coating (for protection) that i do on these machines. i use foam brushes for the black areas & clear-coatings generally. small fine haired brushes & such as used for fine detail work and so on. even so, and being as careful as i can be regarding re-doing the surfaces of these machines (to varying degrees)...there will still be flaws on them. sometimes there may be a drip/s i didn't see, or a small bump/s from a piece of foam that came off a brush...or it will be that the paint i used to re-do some details is thick/or thicker than the surrounding painted areas (which it should be somewhat, because it is generally on top of the surrounding paint).i state this at the beginning of my listings now as a warning: I DO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS AT THIS TIME. i cannot afford to do so. anyone who decides/commits to bidding on or buying one of my sewing machines should be certain that they want the machine and are willing to keep the machine (as it is) . damage en route & usage issues are things i have no problem dealing w/ & helping buyers with. ***this listing is for a: Restored Antique 1889 Singer VS-2 Fiddle Base Treadle Sewing Machine Sews Very Well . this treadle sewing machine head has been: thoroughly Cleaned & polished (where i was able to) all parts, shafts, springs, & metal except the inner most parts of the upper shaft and some part sections extending from it; Restored to a fully functioning & very well sewing state; Serviced/Oiled/Adjusted and perhaps improved in some ways. this machine is complete except for it's treadle belt guard & screw that held it on. a new red spool pin felt was added to this machine. i disassembled and cleaned the entire bobbin winder, the tension unit, all parts in the sewing head, the shuttle (that area as well), the shuttle carrier and so on throughout the machine. cleaned up the bobbin and wound it on this machine (using a restored 1887 Singer VS-2 fiddle base treadle unit which is currently listed here & now - May 2015). sew tested & adjusted the thread tensions. repainted all the black painted parts (including the underside of the machine, the bobbin winder & the hand wheel) and repainted the Singer logo and some of the flowers and such in a cheery way. after doing this i applied gloss polyurethane over all the areas in repainted. replaced & oiled the wick that oils the shuttle's metal arc path (cleaned both the wick hole & the arc oiler hole). look at my pictures of this machine for more detailsthis machine should fit in most Singer treadle units from the 1880's - 1930 or so. this machine was designed to sit in an upright position. the design of it's hinges requires this. that's why "coffin cover" wood lids were made for these machines. the length & width of the sewing bed is the same as many Singer household machines from 1880-1960 or further, but i has a fiddle base shape versus the standard rectangle. so, this machine will obviously fit perfectly in Singer treadle units that were made for it...it also fits in the rectangular Singer treadle units...but because of the fiddle base shape....some open spaces will exist around the narrower sections of the fiddle base and the rectangular treadle machine opening.overall this is a very nice & well sewing machine. it still has marks that show it's true age, my painting isn't perfect...but, it's good...and it doesn't have a belt guard, but that does make putting the belt on or taking it off easier fwiw. - as always, i clean-up & fix-up beat-up screw heads & rough part edges as i go/as i work through the machine i'm working on . -make search for " Singer model 27 and 127 " sewing machines and go to the Wikipedia link for more information about this machine and the other Singer machine in this family.for those who might need a user's guide for this machine or other Singer machines, make a search for Singer sewing machine and the model number of the machine and pdf copies/links for the machine should come up in the search results. also search youtube for vids on how to use these machines if needed.*** i do not accept returns. i do my best to describe my items accurately. i will insure this machine when i ship it via UPS. i will provide tracking information when i'm ready to ship the machine. an adult signature will be required when the machine arrives . this machine will be very well packed:: triple boxed/strong tape and all. i will use Instapak form-able foam protective shipping packs when i box-up this machine.. t his treadle sewing machine head should weigh around 25 lbs when it's all boxed-up . see my other listings and currently listed sewing machines if interested. ****** I was a Husqvarna Viking certified & trained sewing machine, serger & quilting machine repairman/technician for about 4 yrs. then my mother sold her Albany, NY Viking dealership in April 2011. i repaired and serviced about 1,000 machines during that time. now i just repair machines by appointment only & i purchase and fix-up only those machine that i want to work on or that i like. my focus is on old Singer model 15 machines, Singer 15-91, 201-2 potted gear machines, 66's, fiddle base machines & usually the older - oldest hand crank machines...or any good/interesting sewing machine restoration project. *** read more
