For sale today is a small to medium size nicely restored flat top steamer trunk and the restoration turned out just great! This trunk is rare in that it still has the two original trays. I did not find any patent date on the trunk and based on thirty years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the very late 1800's to the early 1900's which makes this neat old trunk a 100 plus years old - a true antique. This trunk was solid when the restoration started and it has a good bottom and the metal was polished and several coats of clear lacquer were applied, it has three original HD hinges that are tight, thirty six pieces of polished hardware, has the original center lock - no key, has the original lid lifter, has the original latches work very well, has twelve thick solid oak slats in a golden oak color, has both the original trays and the interior has been removed, the metal/tin is in VGC, has the four original metal skids on the bottom, two new leather handles were installed with the original hardware, has the original lid stay and the lid closes well.
