For your consideration is a vintage Major-sized Parker Vacumatic fountain pen and pencil set in Silver Pearl color with double-banded silver trim on the caps. The pen measures just over 5 inches long capped. It has been restored with a new diaphragm so that it fills correctly. The pen is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, nicks, deep scratches, or brassing. T he nib shows some flex. I wouldn't call it a "wet noodle" nib, but it can vary its width from Fine to a nice Broad width - please see the photo of the writing sample. The pencil is in likewise good shape with no cosmetic damage. A new 0.9 mm lead has been installed. The lead extends and retracts as expected. The original eraser is almost completely worn down, but the holder is still present. The pen has a date code of the 4th quarter of 1942. However, the Speedline filler installed in the pen was discontinued in 1941 because of war rationing. Additionally, the aluminum of the filler has a distinct yellow color - I'm not sure what the cause of this is, but I was unable to return the aluminum to its typical silver color, and I didn't want to risk thinning the metal too much by removing layers. The yellow color is unusual but not unattractive. My guess is that the original plastic filling mechanism was replaced at some point in the pen's life with the current one.At read more
