Beautiful c.1945-50 painting by American artist, Revington Arthur (1908-1986). Oil on canvas measures 16 x 20 inches; 22 x 26 inches in original, period frame. Depicted here is a dream-like scene typical of Arthur's work: a strange brew of expressionism and primitive naivete. This is an excellent example of the artist's "rider" imagery. The rider always suggests an apparition in Arthur's work. Note here the frightened women standing in the pool (symbolic water imagery). Title: "Strange Rider". Excellent condition with no damage or restoration. Signed lower right and on reverse.
