Hi Folks Yup been a while since I have listed any Rev War relics on Ebay and with the current terrible economy it's a gamble. Let's say life as a buyer is more exciting . Anyway Ebay emailed me and said list your items for free. Boy they really are nice folks up there in Ebay land. Right? So here is something you don't see every day and so as to not get the buttheads that know it all turn me in for selling a fake i'll list this one as a REPRODUCTION and let you decide if it is or not. That way I won't get that dreaded email from the Ebay gods "Your item has been canced because it was significantly misrepresented. Yup sure it has happened to you as well with no recource and I would not mind if you have recource but you don't. Sound familar? Well hell lets get back to the item here. About 15 years ago I bought this silver oval cross belt plate from a gentleman in NJ as real. Well as you know there are many experts out there that will indeed be more than happy to dispute that and in my opinion with all the fakes on the market I am fine with that. No doubt this may have been made for a reinactor or who knows maybe a Brit soldier wore it during the American Revolution of War of 1812. You decide with no hype here or a story like it was found under a colonial homestead in Lake George belonging to one of Col Tarlton's officers. Or like the curent seller on Ebay that offers relics, many from the American Revolution, from a famous long dead well known,?, collector in New York with a letter from a relative. The history is so well documented it makes a great read but I alledge concockted. Sorry I can't mention this seller since Ebay will indeed send me the dreaded email but if you have bought or considered buying from him beware. You can connect the dots. Fakery still abounds on Ebay and I take a few sentences here to mention it to you knew collectors thinking your getting a great deal. I will tell you that you will indeed experience the thrill of victory and not much later the agony of defeat. Education can often be expensive. Back to the item and sorry for going off there and just got carried away with thoughts of all the crap and concokted stories to deceive folks. Unfortunatly fakery is still alive and unwell on Ebay . Now back to my item. Clean and simple this is an apparent, i believe, silver oval cross belt plate that is definatly well made with the King's crown, a GR with the number 3 within the letters. It has puppy paw brazed on studs with a proper hook to adjust on the belt. All aapear to be made made of silver. It measures 2 3/4 by 2 inches and is slightly convex. Also on the back are the letters "CD" incursive. Most likely the owners intitials not the maker. I have provided 4 pics for you to see but none show the face as it looks in the hand which is amazing . The engraving is very sharp to enclude the crown. Has a great patina as silver always exhibits when not cleaned but does not mean it is old. If a repro it is expertly done and I understand can bring from $300-$450 when sold to a reinactor. Funny about these oval buckles as for some reason they look fatter than they actually are and must be just an optical illusion. So there you are simple and honest so I expect you to form your own opinion and bid accoardingly. If you feel it is a repro my opening is well below what you would pay for one. If you believe, or your knowledge is greater than mine, and believe it is real bid what you think it is worth. If your a new collector and not sure I would sugest bid as a repro and you can't go wrong.. Your choice. 7 Day auction, please pay within 3 days of close.
