Offered is a Revolutionary War Pay Abstract from Captain Enoch Chapins Company, part of Colonal Porters Regiment. There are sevral men listed on this document that can be traced. On April 19, 1775, British soldiers attacked the towns of Lexington and Concord. When the news reached West Springfield a company of minutemen composed of West Springfield's citizens began the nearly one hundred mile march to the west on April 20th. CAPTAIN ENOCH CHAPIN, First Lieutenant Samuel Fowler and Second Lieutenant LUKE DAY (on roll as LT.)led fifty men westward to aid their fellow colonists. A majority of the men would later re-enlist.1787 also marked the year of Shay's Rebellion. Captain LUKE DAY (On roll as LT.), who had marched with the minutemen in 1775 and served honorably in the Continental Army for seven years, threatened to lead a group of his fellow townsmen into Springfield to join forces with Daniel Shays. It is not perfectly square but measures roughly 13" x 7". The document does not include a year but I believe it is from 1776 as I have seen some listings read more
