At auction is a rare large die cut tobacciana advertising piece which was probably made for retailers to display in their stores. The item depicts a young lady seated in a rustic chair with her Japanese style parasol open and advertising "RICHMOND CLUB Cigarettes"CAMERON & CAMERON, Manufacturers, RICHMOND, VA., U.S.A." This lovely diecut is chromolithographed on heavy paper stock (heavier than card stock) and heavily embossed as well. It measures 13 ½" tall by 9" wide. It is generally in good condition with the following two exceptions: Note at the bottom left of the piece t is a loss which must have shown the rest of her feet and on the back of the chair w the right hand support meets the back cross support t is a clean break. I should also add that the photos look a bit "washed out" to me--the colors on the piece are quite clear and bright. Even with these imperfections we think she is valuable as we've not seen a piece of this size before in a tobacciana advertising die cut. We are dating her about 1890-1900 based on her clothing style and the image. This item came from my late Dad's ephemera collection which he accumulated from about 1950-80.
