RICK TINORY
Venture Records
Before setting off on a career working in commercials and running a little studio, Rick Tinory wanted to be a rock star. Well, t were some pretty inexperienced joes makin’ it big in 1958, so why couldn’t Rick be one of them.
He cut several singles on little labels in 1961-’62 such as Venture and Sequal but nothing much happened with them. Then came this single. “Oil ‘n Foil” is a song for the surf set – the oil being tanning oil, and the foil being used for …. A swimsuit? On the flip is “Toy Man” which is a very silly song about a mechanical man. Somehow, this was picked up by Amy Records in 1962 and released nationally, but this is the original local label version that seems to be totally missing from all the discographies.
