An American movie poster for Sam Peckinpah's western classic "Ride the High Country" is being offered for you to consider adding to your collection. The poster is an original U.S. Half Sheet movie poster, measuring 22" x 28" inches, standard for this format, is rolled and was never folded. We grade this poster as being in Very Fine to Fine condition. There are no tack or pin holes in this medium weight card stock half sheet, which is untrimmed and guaranteed to be an original. However, we'd like to draw your attention to a few flaws present. First, the poster's lower left corner is slightly blunted and as a result, there is a small amount of paper loss there - this may be observed close up in the 5th picture of the listing. We also point out that there is a crease and a nick on the lower left edge, under the copyright statement, also in photo 5. There is very light surface dirt on the card stock and a light smudge on the upper right corner, depicted in the 3rd photograph. The film's title is written in pencil on the verso (see last 2 pics) though it has no effect on the front of the piece. The poster features handsome images of stars Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea by American artist Howard Terpning. National Screen Service number 62/181 is seen in the lower right hand corner, best seen in the 4th photo in the listing. Please examine all the pictures in the listing closely. The movie was shot on a low budget and principal photography was completed in less than one month. The stunning cinematography was done by Lucien Ballard, and the suits at MGM were impressed enough with the rushes to allow the young director to cut the picture with editor Frank Santillo without interference from studio brass, a most unusual move. When the film's star Randolph Scott saw the completed film, he decided then and there to retire from acting, noting that he could never top his performance in the film. Co-star Joel McCrea had similar feelings about his work on the film, and though he continued his acting career, "Ride the High Country" was also his last film of note. Mariette Hartley made her motion picture debut in the film, and the cast featured many actors who would work with Peckinpah again, including R.G. Armstrong, Warren Oates and L.Q. Jones.
