If you were watching part 1 of this auction which was internationally advertised in November, you know we sold some wonderful one of a kind and never offered before items that belonged to these fantastic glider pilots which were purchased at Peter Riedel's estate auction in Oklahoma in 1999. We still have many items to sell! You can still read about these auctions which are internationally advertised on by clicking on Peter Riedel in the left hand column. Due to the size of this collection we were not able to get them all on this time which necessitates yet a third auction to begin on February 4! Now this is a piece of history! We hesitated about putting this document up for auction as it is obviously something Peter was not proud of. However, it is a document and we are going to sell it. Contents of the document are mentioned in a book published several years ago when Peter Riedel was the German Air Attache. However we don't know if this may be a slightly different version of events than what was published. Do not have the time to completely read both versions as this one is completely in German. You will have to decide. It is a 30 page SIGNED AND DATED document which Peter wrote while he was in Langholmer Central Prison in Stockholm . It is dated August 4, 1946 Stockholm Sweden. It is a detailed, convoluted confession and the detailed circumstances of his defection. It starts out (our translation) "The statement given by me to the police in January of 1945 is not the truth". In Peter's handwriting across the top of the document states that it was mailed to the police constable S. Tufvession in Stockholm. He goes into detail about the so-called Koehncke affair, about accepting kronen. He names specific people, including Wild Bill Donovan and places, the alleged murder plot over Gerdes by the German embassy officials (the pilot who defected with the experimental airplane that had on board the new German night radar equipment. ) He further states that he is ashamed and regretful but states that confession is good for the soul. He begs the reader to "please treat this report as secret!. Do not let its contents be given to the press. First and foremost he says contents would damage his name irreputably and that would be too much punishment for something he wouldn't have done under normal circumstances and has regretted bitterly ever since. Secondly, he thought this would be a great embarrassment to the American Embassy should this exchange of information be published!
