Wonderful 1950s watercolor and gouache of Christmas in Boston (presumably Christmas Eve) featuring the famous Church of the Covenant and the Old John Hancock Building by well-known Boston and Nantucket artist and illustrator C. Robert Perrin (1915-1999). Perrin studied art at the School of Practical Art in Boston (currently The Art Institute of Boston) from 1935-1937. He was a commercial artist in Boston (1938-1942) before he served in World War II. Perrin was a member of and received various awards from the American Watercolor Society, the Boston Society of Independent Artists, the North Shore Art Association, the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters, and the Copley Society. Perrin was a member of the American Watercolor Society, the Guild of Boston Artists, the Artist Association of Nantucket and the New England Watercolor Society. Perrin maintained a studio in Nantucket where his views of Nantucket became widely known. This watercolor offers a romantic view of Boston during Christmas and offers a wonderful view of Boston's Back Bay (looking south down Berkeley St. where it intersects with Commonwealth Avenue) including the Church of the Covenant, the former Museum of Natural History Building, and a decorated John Hancock Building. The 26-story old John Hancock Building, completed in 1947, was the second tallest building in Boston
