This is a rare October 1st, 1935 broadside (single page playbill) from the out-of-town tryout of the ROBERT STOLZ and LAURENCE SCHWAB Gay Musical "VENUS IN SILK" at the Nixon Theatre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (The production opened October 1st, 1935 in Pittsburgh and closed the following week in Washington, D.C., failing to arrive on Broadway.) ..... The ensemble cast included FLORENZ AMES, AL DOWNING, VICTOR CASMORE, JOSEPH MACAULAY, ROY GORDON, NANCY McCORD, AUDREY CHRISTIE, GILBERT LAMB, J. HAROLD MURRAY, JACK YOUNG, JOHN SHEEHAN, BELA LOBLOV, JOHN CHERRY, ALICE DUDLEY, JOHN RAY and JACK COLE ..... CREDITS: Music by ROBERT STOLZ; Book and Lyrics by LAURENCE SCHWAB and LESTER O'KEEFE from the original "Venus in Suede" by ALFRED GRUNWALD and LUDWIG HERZER; Sets designed by RAYMOND SOVEY; Costumes designed by KAY MORRISON; Choreographed by WILLIAM HOLBROOK; Produced and Staged by LAURENCE SCHWAB ..... The single page, one-sided broadside measures 5 3/8" X 12 1/2" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and list of musical numbers, but no cast photos or bios.
