ROBERT ULLMANN SCULPTOR 1903-1966 AUGARTEN VIENNA AUSTRIA White Stallion Figurine #1790 The horse : 12" in height and 16" in length WITHOUT THE BASE. The Horse is in perfect condition with no cracks, breaks , chips, crazing etc... Really a beautiful piece ! I have an eye for quality and this is exquisite . Gorgeous detail and form. Flawless condition !! The solid wood base is 15 x 8.5 x 1 3/4 . I believe the base is ebony or very dark mahogany and looks to be hand carved. It is quite heavy. It has a few very small marks on the sides and one small hairline crack on the top edge that is 5/8" but is hard to see and not deep. It is on the right side as seen in the photo of the full base. I believe in full disclosure and it is there . This wood base is marked in pencil 1790 on the bottom that matches the 1790 on the porcelain horse . The horse also has the Wien mark and ROBERT ULLMANN name on the base. Also marked 1790 Austria on the bottom. It is rare to see the base with these or even seeing the horses come up by them selves. I will not split the pair. I will need to ship double or triple boxed and send insured, no other way. I will not skimp on packaging this as It is fragile. I may need to separate the base for shipment. I would ship to confirmed Pay Pal address out side of the USA but will need to quote per location. I will not misrepresent any values for customs. Please don't ask as it's non negotiable. Provenance This comes from the original wealthy owner that purchased the horse and base together in 1966 from JB Hudson Jewelers in Minneapolis, MN. He is now retiring and down sizing his household. He is the original owner and this has never been on the market before. History Augarten Factory ~ formerly the State Porcelain works in Vienna (closed in 1864), the Wiener Porzellanfabrik Augarten was set up in 1922 as the successor to the former Imperial factory. It still makes figures and porcelain and uses the banded shield, or beehive mark with a crown and the words "Augarten Wien". This factory is probably the only maker in the world with any legitimate claim to the old "Royal Vienna" mark. The mark on this piece dates it to the date of production by the artist, which is 1948. Located at the geographical crossroads of European cultures and as one of the oldest European names in porcelain, Augarten Wien has symbolized the continuity of timeless Viennese tradition, art and culture for almost 300 years now. "Wien” translates as “Vienna”, the capital city of Austria. The porcelain factory at Augarten in Vienna has been in production for almost 300 years. Austria began producing porcelain under the grant of the Austrian royal family. Because of their imperial sponsorship, the factory has been referred to by some collectors as “Royal Vienna”. Porcelain produced by the "Vienna Imperial State Manufactory" began using the mark of the Striped Shield, the coat of arms of the Babenberg family. The shield is referred to as the “beehive” mark because it looks like and old fashioned European beehive. The factory was nationalized but is still located in the Augarten Palace, a former imperial hunting lodge. This is double boxed and has foam and packing around it in the main box. Around the main box it is packed with packing material on top, bottom, back and sides. It will make it safe to you as I packed it really well. Please USA only.
