An awesome painting by the master of the sea Robert Wee. Sized at 36" by 24" this painting is as powerful as it is large and eye catching. You can almost smell the seaspray in the air when viewing this painting. The light through the wave is one of the most powerful illusions I have seen in this medium.
Robert Wee has mastered the challenge of painting the sea and has earned a reputation as one of the premier seascape artists on the West Coast. The viewer of his paintings feels the movement of incoming waves as they break over rocks and along the water's edge. His objective in painting a seascape is to create in the viewer a feeling of movement and emotion with as few brush strokes as possible. Over the years, he has developed an individualistic style that makes a Wee painting easily recognizable. Wee was born and raised in a rural community in Iowa. At the age of seventeen, Robert enlisted in the Navy, serving in the pacific theater during World War II where he spent his free time sketching the people and scenery of the California, Oregon, Japanese and Chinese coastlines. After the service, he was selected to study at the prestigious Art Institute of Chicago. Several years later, he and his family moved to California where his desire to paint the sea began. Since moving to the Sierras, he has divided his interests between painting the sea and painting landscapes of the area. His subjects range from the Wine Country of northern California to the snow-capped peaks of the Sierras and the rushing waters of the American River. Although Robert seeks a change of pace through landscapes or character studies, he has discovered that the ocean, blesses the inquisitive artist with an abundance of assorted challenges. He and his wife travel regularly up and down the Pacific Coast sketching, photographing and observing the ocean in the magic of its changeable moods and seasons
