Check out my other items !Be sure to add me to your favorites list !This is an antique Robeson straight razor in exceptional condition with a rare genuine worm groove stag bone handle with it's original box. The razor measures 6 3/8" closed with a 5/8" wide steel blade marked The Robeson Cutlery Co. Rochester, N.Y. on the front of the tang, 1538 on the back. This was one of the first generation of cutlery items actually manufactured in the U.S. by Millard Robeson. Between 1891-95 he had razors made for him in England and Germany and marketed under the Robeson Name. In 1896 he opened a domestic factory in Rochester, N.Y. The company used the tang stamp on this razor from 1896-1899. The blade still has it's mirror finish and is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or rust. T is a small amount of darkening from age, common in old carbon steel. It is still quite sharp and I see no reason that it could not be used to shave with today if properly honed before use. The handle is genuine stage bone with a worm groove pattern. It is also in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. The pins appear to be silver nickel. The box is in exceptional condition for it's age. It is black cardboard and marked The Robeson Cutlery Co. Rochester, N.Y. and has the Robeson Trademark on the lid.
