Beautiful robin’s egg blue Vallerysthal 1908-1914 shell &dolphin covered dish I bought this lovely covered dish inthe 70’s at an antique shop in Delaware. Some call the color blue opaline but I always think of it as that cheery color robin’s egg blue. It measures about 6-1/2” tall and 5-1/2” in diameter. This lovely piece, made by Vallerysthal in Portieux, has been reproduced by Westmoreland. Some saying that they made a mold from a piece rather than acquiring the original molds. In Betty & Bill Newbound’s book on milk glass, they describe the differences between the two on page 62. The Westmoreland version has a space separating the loop of shells that circle the lid and the Westmoreland dolphins are sad in comparison to the French smiling versions. Mine has the shells actually touching with no spaces and yes, we have happy, smiling dolphins! Condition: Very good condition with no chips are cracks.
